This is a Tourmalated Amethyst and measures 15 x 26 mm. (5/8" x 1-1/16") As Amethyst is quite simply purple Quartz, this specimen has deep color in half the gemstone and tiny needles of Tourmaline (a completely different mineral) in the colorless half.
